Physical evidence in the brain for types of schizophrenia – Neuroscience News | JUNE 24, 2019

Based on their experience with schizophrenia and neurodegenerative disorders, Nucifora and his team wanted to determine if the features of schizophrenia brains that are also seen in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s disease or other illnesses. Post-mortem examination of 42 brain tissue samples of people with schizophrenia revealed a buildup of abnormal proteins similar to that found in people with neurodegenerative diseases. Many of the abnormal proteins were involved in nervous system development, specifically neurogenesis.
