A great site for health and disability news

Disability News Service (DNS) is run by John Pring, an experienced journalist who has been reporting on disability issues for nearly 20 years.

He launched DNS in April 2009 to address the absence of in-depth reporting in both the specialist and mainstream media on issues that affect the lives of disabled people.

Blogger’s Real-life Story!  Life After Endometriosis Surgery: Ablation  |  by ribbonrx  |  24 March 2018  |  #followfriday

Excerpt:

‘After doing some research on my own, the lightbulb came on. At my follow-up appointment with my new OB/GYN, who had overseen my care in the hospital, I boldly announced I thought I had endometriosis. As an experienced OB/GYN, he immediately agreed with me once he’d asked me some questions about my medical history. He suggested a diagnostic laparoscopy to find out for sure.

New Post!   STAYING INDEPENDENT WITH REDUCED MOBILITY…  |  backpainbloguk.com  |  BARMAC5  |  22 March 2018  |  #followfriday

This is one of my favourite topics being a wheelchair user and user of 2 walking sticks!

Independence is frequently reduced due to having reduced mobility a lot more than the ‘general-joe’ realises, which often leaves us stuck in the house for long lengths of time before getting out and about.  Even with a powered wheelchair my life is not my own, I can’t just hop on it and take off.  I need someone to help me so I still have restrictions even though I have the sense of freedom from having the chair!

Opening line:

‘When you suffer from an injury or a long-term illness which leaves you less mobile, it can feel as if you are losing your independence and your ability to do what you want in life.

There’s plenty more to read on BARMAC5’s blog >>>

New Patient platform!  Be a Supportive Voice for Future Patients  |  WEGO HEALTH  |  19 March 2018

Quote from Stage 5 Melanoma survivor  Dan Engel – Author at WEGO HEALTH

“I believe that there are thousands and thousands of survivors like myself who provide informal advocacy on an ad-hoc basis all the time, and would love to be part of a more organized effort to help fellow patients and their families,” Dan shares, “The only thing missing is the technology platform to aggregate those survivors. PatientTrueTalk.com fills that void.”

Exerpt from Introducing PatientTrueTalk.com – A New Way to Help the Newly Diagnosed
Dan Engel | March 19, 2018

Recently launched, PatientTrueTalk.com is the only patient-to-patient registry where patients and/or their caregivers can create profiles with as much information as they feel comfortable sharing, and find matching profiles based on algorithms created by some of the country’s top clinical oncologists. Patients/caregivers can also search along their diagnosis/treatment parameters, refining their search based on the results provided. They can then send secure messages directly to those who they believe represent the closest match. Once a connection is made, the two parties can speak off-line and hopefully form a friendship. My profile is the first “patient advocate” included on the site.

Published on Jan 28, 2018

Every morning and evening I was posting several links to a variety of online newspapers and thought that maybe I could post twice a day from here, our website/blog, Morning and Evening Post instead.

This is to ensure that all the news and stories go out to everyone that follows us across the social media platforms that we have profiles/accounts.

Here’s a few links to my favourite online newspapers for finding a variety of health related news from other Chronic Illness Bloggers & Warriors, for up to date news about health conditions such as latest research papers or people sharing hints and tips about how they cope day-to-day.

Let us help them by showing our support by sharing the news and stories that they share.

If you publish a health related paper.li or other health news magazine/paper that isn’t listed and you would like it to be, please contact me – Carole Sian at fibroflutters@gmail.com or use the form below and let me know, always happy to help 🙂
